The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on June 29, 2010, issued a new guidance document entitled “Guidance for Industry and FDA Advisory Levels for Deoxynivalenol (DON) in Finished Wheat Products for Human Consumption and Grains and Grain By-Products used for Animal Feed.” Deoxynivalenol is commonly known as vomitoxin. Note that FDA on July 7, 2010, updated the new guidance to include gluten feed and gluten meal as subject to the same 30 ppm advisory level applicable to distillers grains and brewers grains.

David Barrett was on April 16, 2010, at the Spring meeting of the Ohio Agricultural Council elected to a two-year term as president-elect of the organization. The Ohio Agricultural Council is a non-profit member funded organization comprised of organizations, companies, and individuals that support agriculture in the state of Ohio. The Council sponsors the Ohio Agricultural Hall of Fame and works to educate the public on the importance and impact of Ohio agriculture.

David Barrett is scheduled to speak at the Grain & Feed Association of Illinios(GFAI) on Monday Feb 15, 2010. The workshop entitled Opportunities for Legal Missteps covers recent cases affecting the agribusiness industry and how you can adequately protect your company.
David Barrett discussed grain contract issues at the Michigan Agri-Business Association Winter conference on January 11, 2010. Contracts from the producers perspective were presented at the National Grain and Feed Association Country Elevator and Feed Industry Conference on Dec. 8, 2009. Country elevators that approach this topic from the producer perspective have a chance to improve relations with producers, enhance profitability and also reduce disputes.
